Queen of Clubs (on Paper) (Copy)

The Queen of Clubs represents social creativity and entertainment—basically, the party planner of her time.

Whenever I put black dots on yellow, I think of Yayoi Kusama. I was lucky enough to see her work at my college’s art gallery—an installation of huge 3D yellow blobs covered in black circles. What a world she created! Just like an entertainer, she built a space and we were invited into it.

Both of these queens are keeping a close eye on their party! This piece was painted over a large collage of a face, so in a way, there are three faces enjoying the celebration. And, of course, they are wearing gold bracelets for the occasion.

It makes me feel complimented when someone brings one of my paintings into their space—like I get to be part of their world, their gatherings, their celebrations. In a way, I get to go to their parties too!
