Systems Combine #2

This painting represents all of the circulation coming together in the liver – hepatic artery, hepatic vein, portal vein, and biliary system by their representative colors. It features the hexagons that the vessels running together form. 

It features the hexagons with in the liver because the functional unit of the liver, the lobules, are arranged in hexagons.

The graphic border on the mat makes an abstraction of the channels created by endothelial cells, so that waste can be filtered, nutrients can be stored and metabolism can continue.
