Systems Combine #1

This painting represents all of the circulation coming together in the liver – hepatic artery, hepatic vein, portal vein, and biliary system. 

It features the hexagons with in the liver because the functional unit of the liver, the lobules, are arranged in hexagons. The 8 segments of the liver are also shown here if you know them. The background shifts from red to white to symbolize the filtering of the blood within the liver.

The graphic border on the mat makes an abstraction of the branching of the veins and arteries that branch throughout the liver.
